of note.

pratt did something the other day that deserved a disciplinary measure.  i honestly cannot remember what it was.  i think he raised his voice at me.  gave me an order and raised his voice.

i turned around and grabbed him by the shoulders and got right in his face.  (just like my mother used to do to me.  only i was always scared by it.  not my kid.)  anyway, i grabbed him and said, "you do not raise your voice to me.  or anyone else for that matter.  if you want something, you ask nicely.  yelling gets you nowhere in this house, child."

he looked up at me and said, (AND I QUOTE), "you are so mean.  and today, you are so crazy."

are you dying?!  that sweet little boy.  hahahaaaaa!!!  yes.  that's what he said.

i didn't miss a beat.  i grabbed him again and got nose to nose with him.

and said, "listen here child, i'll show you mean.  and i'll show you crazy.  you haven't seen either of those things yet.  but i can do it.  i can do it right now."

i wanted to tell him that i had a few people he could call about the "crazy" topic.  i mean, honestly.  there are a few ex-boyfriends who i'm SURE would classify me as crazy.  i can be crazy.  i can do it well.

all i could think about was bill cosby.  "son, i brought you into this world and i can take you out."

amen, bill.  amen.

i told clint just the other night at dinner.  the day pratt says something about how i haven't done enough for him.  or that i'm to blame for something.  or that it's my fault he's a certain way.  oh man, oh man.  i'm gonna go ape you-know-what crazy on him.  i really am.  i won't be hurt.  well, maybe later.  but initially, i'll go nuts.  and he will regret saying it.  and he will never say it again.

because there is one thing i know since giving birth to him.  and that is that my mom worked her butt off everyday for me to be happy.  and healthy.  and to have a good life.  and she spent many a night praying for me.  and i spent many a night truly believing they were trying to ruin my life.

i was wrong.  so, so wrong.

so mom, i'm sorry.  thank for you always loving me.  and never "taking me out".  even though i know you wanted to :)

and pratt, don't test me.  i always win.  i do, i really do.

you is crazy.

ha! Looooooved this :) I've always called my mom "crazy lady" and then, once I had children, I told her I was sorry. Bc truly, it's their fault we're crazy.

Lol! When I was about 3, my mom sent me to my room for doing something wrong. I told her she was so mean, she belonged in Satan's family. She remembers thinking her daughter just told her "where to go" the best way she knew how. Imagine how funny it was when I graduated from school with a degree in Theology...all those years later, still trying to figure out whose family everyone is in. Ha!

Thank you, Hannah. We do what we think is in our child's best interest, but it's hard to realize that until you are the parent. I know one thing for sure and that is you are a wonderful mother. Pratt is proof of that!

so...next time you are down on your mommyness, i need you to remember these words from one jon merryman.
me: hon, what if we decide to have a baby and it is bad, just real bad?

jon: maybe we can just ask hannah if she will give us pratt. because he is perfect. and i would like one just like that.

About Me

My photo
i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
