big, busy day.

Max and I love our Wednesday mornings. It's just the two of us.
We talk. And visit. And laugh. And play.

Clara made Pratt this bowtie. And he wants to wear it with everything. He told me it was like a hat.

Miss Laura, Katie and Chloe got him some little good luck charms at the museum of discovery. He loves them.

We made chocolate chip cookies today. With our secret ingredient: oatmeal. Ground up. Mixed in with the flower. Both boys loved them. Yes. I gave max some cookie.

I made green beans for max today. Thought he was probably ready to eat them whole. As soon as they were cooked, Pratt ate half the bag. This is why he's only 30 pounds. Because he loves veggies. And fruit.

Max ate the other half of the bag ;)

He's being all big in the tub. Sitting up on his own. Where does time go?! Look at that curl in the back. A little Kenny power-ish. But still. It's cute.

Here are those good luck charms. He loves them. They are all asleep in his bed now.

We had a wonderful day!

taxi.

last night i was bathing max.  pratt was going potty before he hopped in.  because you know, it's inevitable that he gets in THEN realizes that he needs to potty.

so he's sitting there.  i'm talking to clint who is also in the bathroom..when all of a sudden pratt starts singing...

put the money through the slot
see ya later, thanks a lot!

i literally fell out laughing.  i looked at him.  all 28 pounds of him.  sitting there on the toilet.  stark naked.  and i just laughed.  i couldn't place the song.  but i knew i knew it.  i asked him to keep singing.  and so he did.  while he smiled with those big, brown eyes.

taxi, taxi
riding in the backseat
roll the window up
roll the window down
put the money in the slot
see you later
thanks a lot
sure beats walking downtown!

there is never a dull moment.  never, ever.

snow and a little party.

this morning we woke to a little bit of snow.  it didn't stop our kdo valentine party though.  and that's a good thing.  pratt was so excited about his cards for everyone.  he picked out "girly" bugs for the girls.  and "real" bugs for the boys.  and he saved the special blue butterfly for his girlfriend (their words...yes.  him and lyla), lyla.  she's a doll.  i hope she loves it.

p.

he got so old when I wasn't looking.

he reminds me so much of myself. he loves being praised. sometimes he will say, "momma, say I did a good job."

and all I can do is think about how many kids don't hear that. and it breaks my heart.

I love him to the moon and back.

dear boys.

dear boys,

for as long as i can remember, pop pop has given me advice.  it's never been forceful.  or over the top.  it's never been pushed on me, thrown in my face.  i've always tried to take it all in.  remember it.  write it down.

because i can't remember him ever telling me something that didn't make sense.

now, at the time of the advice, i might have fought it.  i might have thought, "this man is crazy.  he's totally off.  that can't be right."

but looking back...years later, i see that he was pretty much always right.  i can say, with complete confidence that his intentions were always good.  and pure.  and came from a loving place.  i pray that you will be able to say the same thing about me one day.

one thing he has always taught me is the importance of giving to those in need.  i remember graduating from college and not knowing what i really wanted to do.

his only advice was,

find a job where you can help other people.  because it is in helping those in need that you will find your true happiness.

that's probably the smartest thing he has ever told me.

you will find that there is a great divide in what "helping" means.

some people feel that because so many take advantage of the help that is given to them, we should stop helping.  or maybe limit our helping.  or even maybe...make sure those getting the help really need it.  really deserve it.  and are really appreciative of it.

i don't feel that way.

i say, give and give and give.  and when you think you've given enough, give some more.

there are many programs through our government that help those in need with medicine.  and food.  and education.  i could go on and on.  some of the people accepting this help unfortunately take advantage of it.

recently a man named stephen colbert made the following comment in regards to our nation as christian nation.  as a loving, helping, giving nation....

if this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it.

i think it might be the best quote regarding giving.  when i forwarded it to pop pop, he wrote back, "colbert for president!"

i think the key phrase is "without condition".  some would argue this.  some would argue (and quote scripture) about how we need to help those that help themselves.  and we don't need to let people take advantage of programs.

i'm not for people taking advantage of something.  but as my preschool teacher said, just because some take advantage of certain programs/situations does not mean that we throw the baby out with the bath water.  we can't stop giving to the masses simply because of a few "bad apples".

i'm not smart enough to figure out a way to make those programs better.  that's not my job.  i am, however, smart enough to know that Jesus taught to give.  and that is what i will try to do. (note: i'm faaaaaaaaaar from perfect in this area)

i could write more.  i could say more.  i could really get on my soapbox about this.

but i won't.  i'll save it for another day.  another post.

i'll just wrap this up with this small thought....

when i get to heaven, and i'm standing at the pearly gates....i want to be able to say that i gave.  and that i gave and gave and gave.  i don't think anyone will say, you realize you gave to those who took advantage of you.  so no heaven for you.

at least i hope that's not what they say.  i hope they say, good job, my child.  thank you for giving without condition.  you did just as Jesus taught.

i love you both.

my prayer for you today is that you learn to give.  and that in giving, you find true happiness just as pop pop promised.

xoxo,
mommy.

saturday.

we started the day off by taking a trip to Krispy Kreme with Ella, Carrie, Erika and Lyla.

Daddy caught Pratt a baby lizard. So we spent a good bit of time getting the lizard's terrarium up to par.

Max loved being with us. This marks the FIRST time he was in a stroller and NOT crying. It was pretty awesome!

worth.

sometimes you get a picture that you don't need to say anything about.  it speaks volumes.

and this is one of those.

as the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words".

amen to that.

up.

at some point, he realized that sitting up is way better than lying down. and so all he wants to do is sit up. be it in my lap, in the bathtub or in his carseat.

he's constantly trying to push himself up on his elbows to see what's going on in the world.

it's hard to believe that he is this old. that in only 3 months he will be a year old. which means Pratt will almost be four. idk. unreal.

my boys.

There is nothing better than chubby hands and fingers. You know, they smell clammy and sweet. Like apple puffs. How I love this baby boy.

"Look mom, I made a 4!" he's the best.

mornings.

mornings are easily my favorite time of day. Both boys are in such good moods. Happy, smiling, sweet.

It's hard to remember what I did before them.

About Me

My photo
i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
