three gifts.

so a few weeks ago, clint heard (of all people) kathy lee gifford talking about christmas at her house. she mentioned that her kids, cassady and cody (why i know that, i'm not sure), always get three gifts.

just like jesus did.

so, clint and i decided that would be a great idea for pratt.

now, let me say this. we have no control over pratt's grandparents :) and i would never try to enforce this rule upon them. that would be impossible as pratt is constantly given gifts, clothes, toys, etc, throughout the year...not just on christmas. (which we completely appreciate. and we would never, ever, ever try to change this.)

at first, i was unsure about it. those of you who know clint, this should come as no surprise that it was his idea...not mine.

but the more i've thought about it, the better i think it is. for example, anytime we are anywhere, pratt has already learned to lean over in the cart to reach for things. he sees something shiny and he wants it. doesn't matter what it is. it can be a superman pez dispenser or a bouncy ball. either way, he wants it.

he's pretty good at being distracted. so i can usually always dig something shiny out of my purse to get his attention so i can put the pez dispenser back on the shelf. but i won't be able to do this for much longer.

our friends paul and brandy have a rule. if they are going to get something for their little girl, they discuss it in advance. but they don't make a habit of getting something for mc every single time they go somewhere. i think this is brilliant.

so, three gifts it is.

pratt, if you hate this idea, blame your dad. not me. it's his idea.

if, on the other hand, you grow up to save poor kids in africa and when you're being given the nobel peace prize, you say, "i have always had a strong desire to put others first. it started at christmas time. my parents knew that there were kids everwhere who didn't get christmas gifts. and so overindulgence was never an issue with me. thank you mom and dad. i dedicate this honor to you."

if that is the case, then you can thank me. because i thought it was a superb idea.

i love you pumpkin,
mommy.

I told my girls last week that I was going to do the three gifts thing this year... like the gifts from the wisemen to Jesus. They were really okay with it. Carolina's only question was whether her IPod Touch could be one of those three things. They know they don't need anything and have everything they really need already. They haven't even made a list this year and have been more into finding gifts for others. It's great that you are starting Pratt on this path so early!! Good idea Clint!

We're doing the three gift thing too! When I heard the idea I just LOVED it--such an easy way to teach them the true meaning of Christmas.

This is funny..we're actually doing the 3 gift thing as well. I decided last year when I was pregnant that this is what we'd do when we had him. I tell everyone, "If 3 gifts was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for Parker."

"three, is the magic number, yes it is...."
do you know this song? it's a math song. google it. yawl will love it.
and you know, they never know who gave them what anyway. i could give juju ten gifts and she would just assume they are from Darlin, not me. So there ya go.
And hey, you can't argue with the Trinity right? Well, actually...now that I think of it, I am techically a Mormon so I should not have typed that. Whatev

About Me

My photo
i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
