above all, children need our unconditional love, whether they succeed or make mistakes, when life is easy and when life is tough. -- our president.
i couldn't agree more. and seeing this face makes me want to stop time. and love him with all of my being. because sometimes it's hard. not loving him. loving him is easy. the worry is hard. worrying about him growing up to be good. worrying that he will hurt someone's feelings. worrying that he will have his feelings hurt beyond repair. so much worry in the world today. and there's so much i want to teach him.

Monday.
today was miss Laura's last day as the director of mothers day out at our church. Laura was the first person we met at church. I loved her instantly.
I cannot imagine KDO without her. She starts a new chapter teaching kindergarten this fall. If I could, I'd sell our house to get zoned for that school.
We will miss her like crazy.

Today was also max's year check up. He weighs 25 pounds which is the 60th percentile. And he is in the 90th percentile for height. Can't remember how tall he was. I'll look on the paper tomorrow.
Pratt didn't want to watch the shots. Said he didn't want to see Max cry. So he sat at the nurses station and visited while Max had shots.
On our way we discussed the importance of immunizations. Somehow we got on the subject of polio. Which led to FDR. Which led to Pratt asking, "I didn't know turtles could be president!!"
My friend holly saw the picture below and commented, "that kid smiles more than Bozo." yesssss!
Can you tell how much he loves Pratt? And can you tell how nervous Pratt was?

mancave.
We watched spiderman in the mancave. First time. We lasted about 35 minutes. It was a record for sure.

Pratt loves to "babysit" or "keep an eye on" max for me. All he has to do to get his attention is say, "maaaaaax! Come here!!!!"

My sleeping pal. Daddy is at poker. So he's keeping his side warm. Lucky me.

Also. I must remember that earlier max fell down and started crying. Pratt ran over and made a silly song up and started dancing, waving his arms. Max totally stopped. Stopped crying and started laughing. Unreal.
These are for sure the best days.

thursday.
some days are diamonds.
Today was a diamond. It started with banana bread. From "bake wise". And it requires whipped cream. You can do no wrong with whipped cream.

We tissue papered a window.

Max crawls on top of Pratt. Always. And Pratt allows it. It's like max can't be too close.

Snocones. After naptime.

And then we washed off the sticky syrup with a bath in the washtub. The water was freezing but max loved it. And Pratt eventually did too.

And then we had dinner. And a dance party in the kitchen. Song on repeat tonight was neon trees: everybody talks.

All in all...a really great day.

driving to Florida.
On the way to Florida, spencer and Liza rode with max and me. We left Camden around 7. Liza immediately went to sleep.
Max went to sleep at 12:03 am. Yep. You read that right. I have no idea how Liza didn't wake. He didn't scream for long. I mean, he would let out a yelp here and there but he was remarkably well behaved. As long as someone was sitting looking at him, he was cool.
Finally right after midnight he slept. We arrived around 330. He was up from 330 until 515. I thought I was going to die. I might have called clint crying.
I got 2 hours of sleep. Then Pratt woke me up. The next night I slept from 7 pm until 7 am. I was dog tired.
So. Lesson to all you reading this. Unless your child likes to sleep in the car, you might as well leave early in the morning. At least you can make stops and get home and be on a normal sleep schedule.

my love.
while we were on vacation, something hit me. i don't know why really. or when. i just know that as we drove home on saturday morning, i looked over at clint and saw something different. no, maybe different is the wrong word. maybe i saw something i had missed. something more. something extra. lagniappe. yes. that's the word i was searching for. how fitting...
let me preface this by saying that we have had such an easy five years. sooooooo easy. we've never experienced death. or infidelity. or anything that really shakes you to your core.
but we've had two children. and i've had mad, crazy post partum. and i think that i struggle with depression more than the average joe. maybe not. but i know i make a conscious effort to be happy most days. and my life is so easy. so i don't think that it should have to be a conscious thing. like i should just feel it. anyway.
there have been valleys. for sure.
but i've never wondered if he loves me after a breakdown. i've never worried he would walk out. or move on. or change. i never question his feelings for me. i know that he thinks i'm better today than i was five years ago. or even 8 years ago.
as we were driving back and talking, i realized that i will do whatever it takes to make him happy. and make his life easy. because he deserves that. he spends so much of his time making my life easy.
the seed was planted on the ride back.
it has continued to grow...and become more obvious as we settled in. as we unpacked. as we got back to our normal routine. i always have a really hard time when vacations are over. maybe because it's back to the everyday grind. maybe now it's because i'm away from my family. my parents and my sister. and so i feel lonely.
but monday came easy. and for that, i'm so thankful.
so clint, if you're reading this, thank you. thank you for this fairy tale of a life.
thank you for loving Jesus. and me. and these little boys.
i can't put into words just how happy i am to spend the rest of my life with you.
i see lots of front porch rockin'. lots of guitar pickin'. and wine drinkin'.
and most of all, lots and lots of smoochin'.
xoxo.

brothers.
yesterday was such a good day.
first thing that morning, pratt got ready for swimsuit season.
i've figured out that pratt cannot nap during the day if you want him to go to sleep at a reasonable hour. so....we've started "resting". this means he has to be on a bed somewhere. he can be watching tv (because if he's not, he will fall asleep for hours).
usually this happens around 130 or 2. which is perfect because that's also when max is napping. so yesterday i cooked for friends while the boys rested.
it hit me that they've never really played together in the kitchen sink. i always let pratt play while i'm cooking or cleaning up. and it hit me that max would love it too. so that's what we did.
they had the best time. and max is totally smitten with pratt. whatever pratt does, max does. and thinks it's the greatest idea ever.
sweet, sweet boys.

About Me

- i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
