dear pratt,
sunday at church, the preacher spoke on something that i thought was letter worthy. it was taken from psalm 107: 1 through 9, and verse 43.
it's about God's love for us. his unfailing, unwavering, unconditional love.
i don't know how old you will be when you first read this, but regardless let me tell you something that should be easy to understand. easy to comprehend.
God is love.
people will make Him out to be something so complex. something so big. so overwhelming. and while at times, He may feel like that...really, the essence of him, the take home message is just that. those three words. God is love.
love being a verb. not a noun. that's an important part.
for a while now, i've tried to put into words how different my relationship with God is because of you. because of your existence. but i can't. i get all tongue tied. and teary eyed. and lost in emotion.
but yesterday, the preacher did an excellent job of saying, of expressing just what i've tried to express, but have been unable to do.
he told this story. a story about himself. about his first born. a daughter. he told about how when she was born, he bought a brand new outfit for her. for her to go home in. how he told the nurses that he wanted to dress her. he wanted to carry her out of the hospital and put her in the car. he told about how when he would get home from work at night, he would eat his dinner on the floor so he could sit next to her. about how he would put her up near the sink in the mornings when he was getting ready for work.
he talked about she never knew all the things he was doing for her. she never knew how much he loved her. and he expressed that he wasn't doing these things for anything in return.
nope, instead, he was doing them because he loved her.
a quote from my dear friend emily comes to mind, "you like someone because. you love someone although." pretty good, huh? she's smart.
the preacher went on to say that when his daughter got older, she began to crawl to him. and for the first time, she showed interest in him. and it was because of all the time he spent loving her when she was too young to remember. and how her loving him was so powerful to him. it was heavenly.
i feel the exact same way. he likened his love for his daughter to God's love for us. we don't have to do anything to receive it.
you don't have to do anything for me to love you. i will love you no matter what.
and just think of this. if i, little ole me, if i feel that way, imagine what God feels like. imagine how much He loves you. it's overwhelming. and wonderful. and makes me warm inside.
so one day, when you have your own child, remember this. remember how much i love you. and even though, i'll never be good at verbalizing it, this is exactly how i feel.
you are a complete joy. i wouldn't trade a single moment of our days.
thank you for making me a mommy.
i love you sugar pie.

- i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
