my cup.

i mentioned a book a few posts ago, and i want to go back to it.

it's called calm my anxious heart and it's by linda dillow.

first, i'm guilty of judging a book by it's cover. and had i just come across this book in barney knuckle, i probably wouldn't have bought it. lucky for me...someone gave it to me. and that someone is my moms n more leader. her name is ellen.

i've been reading it consistently for a few mornings now. and during the days/nights when i get a few minutes. it's a "womans guide to finding contentment" and well...honestly, i've never felt more content than i have in the past few days.

maybe it's because it's still new. and it will burn away like most things do. but i don't know. i don't feel like it's going anywhere.

there have been several situations, where i've actually caught myself and stopped myself before i wanted. before i wanted something someone else had. before i wanted something from target. before i wished to be someone else. etc. etc.

one verse that i've carried with me the past few days...literally carried with me on a post-it note is this...

Lord, You have assigned me my portion and my cup. You have made my lot secure. Psalm 16:5.

as the author says in the book, by not accepting your cup...by not accepting your portion, you're basically telling God that He is wrong. that you want to do things your way. and that you really don't need Him in your life.

nothing could be further from the truth.

hope this helps you today as well. whoever you might be...

oh, and also. last night it hit me that pratt could be leaving our home for college...and then for good in only 16.5 short years. i broke down when i realized it. so much so that when he cried last night around 230 am, i was convinced he was having a nightmare and let him sleep in our bed.

yes sir. totally did. and let me say that i'm not against kids sleeping with their parents. it doesn't really work for us (you know with all the kicking and moving around and all the non-sleeping that i get)...but it did last night. i held that big ole baby from 230 until 730 this morning. cradled him in my arms.

oh time...please slow down. not so content with time....nope. not so much.

Thank you Hannah! I really did need to hear that. I start another month in the PICU and I am already feeling sad and overwhelmed. This was a nice encouragement before I start a really terrible month again. I appreciate your words.

One of my blog friends saw your blog and was also inspired by the quote you shared. I thought I'd let you know, if you want to read it. She's a great person.

Thanks Hannah. I'm working on being satisfied and this post just reaffirmed it for me. Glad you got to hug on cute little pratt all morning. :)

About Me

My photo
i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
