simple.

Pratt: "mom, how does a submarine go underneath the water?"

Me: "um...you know, I don't know. Maybe a propeller? Yes. Maybe. Or maybe there is a button they push that says, "down" and "up".

Pratt: "no mom. That's just too simple. I'll ask dad. I bet he knows."

Awesome.

pause.

there are moments during our days when i literally close my eyes.  and try to soak it all in.

the sights.  the smells.  the sounds.  all of it.  because i know that these are going to be, by far, my most favorite years with the boys.

pratt could literally bonk max on the head and max would laugh.  and smile.  and wish he were just.like.pratt.  not that pratt would do this.  it's crazy how sweet he is to him.  i keep holding my breath.  waiting on this to change.  i'm sure that it will.  i hear that all the time.  once max starts to take his toys.  once max starts to need me more.  etc, etc.

i guess as much as i can be, i'm ready for that.

i just love this age for both of them.  i said to clint last night, i would have ten more children if someone would agree to raise them for the first 6 months.  i'm just no good.  it's the sleep thing.  i can't do it.

we played in the sunshine after school today.  max giggles the entire time he's in the swing.  and pratt just wants to "fwy so high that (he) can see the twees"!

i'm so blessed to have them.  i now realize that mom really was being serious when she told me that i was perfect.  that everything about me was perfect.  i never believed it.  but now i do.  because those boys are perfect in my eyes.  so, so perfect.  exactly how God wanted them to be.

have a blessed monday.

mornings with max.

I love these days. Such a fun age. Such a sweet, happy baby.

the stuff dreams are made of.

for a solid 30 minutes they have been "playing" like this.

Pratt builds something. The entire time he tells max what he's building. And max just "talks" and laughs. And swings his arms round and round.

This is the stuff dreams are made of. Two brothers playing together.

Remind me of this next time Pratt is making tiger growl face at me...

max's first swing.

max LOVES his swing.

and that's good.  because we will do a whole lot of this come spring.  and maybe by then pratt will have "the push" mastered.

happy b-nastics, day!

liza kate.

Liza is the prettiest baby ever born.

I've already started worrying about anything that could possibly hurt her. Im going to have to move closer so that Pratt and max can protect her. That's just all there is to it.

dear pratt.

today i registered you for preschool.

did you read that?  do you need to read it again?

come september 4th, you will be a member of preschool.

i didn't cry as i filled out the forms.  in fact, i laughed.  because they asked me to describe you.  and i thought, "how in the world do i do that?  he's indescribable.  he's funny.  and talkative.  and inquisitive.  and kind.  he's hard headed.  and he's persistent.  he can be incredibly sweet and then turn into a growl face tiger in 0.02 seconds."

me, miss verbose, i...i found myself with no words.  no way of telling these two wonderful, incredible teachers about you.  because you kind of just have to meet you.

don't worry.  i didn't write that.  i tried to put something down that made sense.  that was logical.  and honest.

and as i did, as i tried so hard to keep my hand from writing, "he's like the super best kid ever.  ever, ever, ever.  even in the 30 years you've been teaching kids...he's gonna be the bomb", i realized that this is what every mother thinks.  and feels.

we all do.  we all think our kid is the best.  (even though you actually are).

and i realized that i'm finally a member of "that club".  and i'm not ashamed.  i'm proud.  i'm proud that we've made it this far.

i remember when you were first handed to me, pratt.  i remember like it was yesterday.  i remember so many people coming in that hospital room to get a look at you.  so many people held you your first day here.  as stacy says, "for a little while, you were the newest baby in the world." i think older people get that.  they get that babies truly are a piece of heaven.  and so they wanted to hold you.  and to smell you. and to love on you.  even if for just a few minutes.

you have turned into this 3.5 year old little boy.  who loves bugs.  and rhyming games.  and coleman.  you've developed this personality.  you're smart.  and kind.  and you love me more than i deserve.  sometimes you tell me randomly that you love me.  and no matter where we are...or what i'm doing, it always causes a lump in my throat.  because i don't feel like i'm good enough.  you wouldn't understand this sentiment.  it would make no sense to you.  but it's true.

i'm so proud of who you are.  i'm so proud of the friend you are.  and the son you are.  i love watching you with your grandparents.  and with liza.

and i'm gonna love watching you at school.  i know that your teachers will love you.  and i can rest in knowing that they will love you too.

one more thing...the majority of the people in my life who have influenced me, have been teachers.  i pray that you will be able to say the same thing when you're my age.

there is an art to teaching.  and not everyone has it.  i pray that you are blessed with loving, kind, motivated teachers for your entire schooling.

based on preschool...we're off to a great start.

i love you to the moon and back.
xoxo,
mommy.
you know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. - dr. seuss

About Me

My photo
i'm a girl who likes to write. not a girl that's necessarily good at writing. it's cathartic, i think. and boy do i need that from time to time. i married a wonderful man named clint in may of 2007. he is everything i am not. he is calm. he makes plans. he is organized. his truck is always clean. his clothes are hung by types of shirt/color/size/etc. i'm full of nervous energy. i'm spur of the moment. i can't ever find what i'm looking for. we live in my car...pretty much. i'm lucky if my clothes are within ten feet of my closet. God gave us a precious angel of a baby in september of 2008. his name is pratt allen. he is 2.5 years old.we have another little one on the way. his name is max wesley. and he is due may 19th. somehow i'll be the mother of two boys. craaaaa.zy. i spend my days cleaning house. picking worms and caterpillars out of the flower beds. cooking meals. shopping at target. washing clothes. playing on the floor. reading books. doing puzzles. traveling to sonic. and the library. and blogging. i hope you enjoy our blog. feel free to leave a comment. hopefully it's a nice one. i tend to wear my heart on my sleeve.
